Mission

Mission

Mission is the fundamental reality of our Christian life together at Tabernacle Baptist Church. We are Christian because God has called us to work collectively for the fulfillment of God’s purpose for humanity. In other words, the local church, as a part of the larger universal Church, has been given the task of sharing in God’s mission to the world, which results in many diverse social ministries. By combining mission education, unique partnerships, and hands-on service to our neighborhood, country and world, Tabernacle seeks to take the whole gospel to the whole person,” as was demonstrated by Jesus’ ministry on earth. Each month, Tabernacle Baptist Church intentionally focuses her energies on the awareness of, reflection
on, and response to one specific area of need or agency meeting needs. Sometimes that means addressing a crisis as far away as Sudan and sometimes it means learning more about systemic hunger right here in our own city.

Mission Focus Months:

July (2006) - The Crisis in Sudan
August - September (2006) - Worldwide Hunger
October (2006) - The World’s Religions
November (2006) - Mission Offering Giving
December (2006) - The Season of Hospitality
January (2007) - Recycling Awareness
February (2007) - Senior Adults
March (2007) - Hungary and The Coppage Family Missionaries

We feel that by first gaining accurate information, making personal contact, and then following through on a specific task, we are holistically addressing God’s mission to love and care for all of God’s people. It is short-term investment in an agency or study of a particular need with the hope of long-term exposure to the reality of God’s world and our role in it. But we cannot do this alone. Well-informed folks are needed to share in the task of researching, suggesting, and planning events for focus months for the coming year. Where do you see a need? Who is meeting a need that we should know about?
